The Program Consists Of:

16 Adolescent Recovery Groups (minimum)
4 Multi-Family Therapy Groups
4 Individual Family Sessions
4 Parent Coaching Classes
2 Family Education Meetings
2 Monthly Parent Support Groups
1 All-Day Ropes Course
4 Drug and Alcohol Testing Kits

The minimum requirements for graduation from the program are completion of the program components listed above and 16 consecutive weeks clean and sober.
Assessment
The Assessment is designed to gather information as well as to evaluate the teen and parent's level of motivation to address the substance abuse issue. If the teen denies they have a drug abuse problem and/or refuses treatment, the parents may become involved in a systematic process to intervene upon their teen's drug problem, known as "parent coaching".

Boys/Girls Recovery Group
This is an ongoing weekly theme and process group which focuses on issues related to substance abuse. Other topics addressed are: self-control, personal responsibility, self-esteem, school performance, family relationships, and peer relationships. Girls and boys attend seperate recovery groups. Approximately 75% of teens continue in their recovery group beyond the eight-week formal program. After the 16th group, there is a $40 per group charge.

Multi-Family Therapy Groups
Multi-Family therapy is comprised of several families (parents and teens) meeting together to discuss issues related to the substance abuse issue in their family. Additionally, Multi-Family groups are designed to foster a sense of teamwork and support that is often missing when families try to deal with those problems alone.

Family Therapy
Every family participates in individualized family therapy with their assigned counselor. Many of the same themes discussed are addressed in more detail in family therapy. Family therapy is scheduled at your convenience during the 16-week program.

Parent Coaching Class
All parents (no kids) attend this important four week education series, usually during the first month of treatment, to learn and become comfortable with the treatment philosophy of the program. It is here that parents become familiar with the "5 Rules", the importance of limit setting, drug and alcohol testing, "parent co-dependency" , "family roles" and more. See schedule for days and time.

Family Education
Families, including their substance-abusing teenagers, attend these didactic, presentation/discussion sessions. The sessions provide information about co dependency/enabling, family rules and consequences, street drugs, family member roles, the addictive cycle, treatment and recovery. The program requires
mandatory drug testing which is also addressed in detail during family education sessions. All families are involved in the family education. These sessions lay the foundation and provide the language and information necessary to participate optimally in the program.

Parent Support Group
The Parent Support Group that takes place on the 4th Wednesday of each month is open to parents for as long as they would like to come at no charge. What we know about adolescent recovery, (i.e. the longer kids stay in touch with some kind of support the better chance they have to stay sober in the future) is true for parents as well. The Parent Support Group is designed to help parents remain clear about their mission with their child, to get support from other parents who are on a similar mission with their child and to lend support to those parents who are just starting out.

Family Ropes Course
Each family will participate in the all day (Saturday) Family Ropes Course experience that is provided by NEXT LEVEL in Sebastopol. Because this outing is offered every other month, families will participate at different times during their treatment.
The purpose of the Family Ropes Course is to encourage parents and kids to push themselves beyond their typical comfort zone with help of their family. For many families, working together toward a mutual goal is something that may have not happened for some time. The ropes course experience fosters trust and cooperation between family members and a sense of mastery that is often missing in the lives of substance abusing kids.

Outings
It is the program goal to offer at least one weekend outing for the kids in the program per month, typically on Saturday evening. The following is a list of some of the past outings: bowling, pool, skiing/snowboarding in Tahoe, paintballing, wakeboarding, Great America, and beach BBQs. The purpose behind these outings is to offer experiences where kids can have fun, lots of fun, without having to be high or drunk.

Individual Counseling
Because the focus of the program is to utilize peer and family interactions, individual counseling is not automatically included in the program. However, there are circumstances when individual therapy is appropriate and is made available as needed.

Commitment to Treatment
Entering treatment is a commitment for both the substance abusing teenager and the parents. In order to get as much as
possible out of the program we ask that kids and parents commit to the following:
Kid’s Commitment
I commit to...
  1. Attend all program groups on the schedule.
  2. Arrive on time.
  3. Call if I can't attend the program one day due to illness or an important scheduling conflict.
  4. Being respectful of others.
  5. Being willing to participate.
Parent’s Commitment
I commit to...
  1. Attend all program groups/components on the schedule.
  2. Call in advance if I and/or my child can't attend the program one day due to illness or an important scheduling conflict.
  3. Perform random drug and alcohol tests during the program and until my son/daughter no longer lives in
    my house.
  4. Learning that holding my son/daughter accountable
for his/her behavior is a deep expression of my love.
